What Do I Know of Holy
What do you know about holy?
What do you know about God?
Have you made him too small? Have you ever feared him at all?
Here is some of what God has said about Himself in his word (ESV);
Genesis 1:1- In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:27- So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
Deuteronomy 4:24-For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.
Deuteronomy 6:4-Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.
Deuteronomy 10:17-For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who is not partial and takes no bribe.
Psalm 50:6-The heavens declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge! Selah
Psalm 95:3-5-For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth: the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.
Psalm 96:4-5-For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the LORD made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.
Proverbs 30:5-Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
Lamentations 3:21-23-The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
John 4:24- God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.
Romans 1:20- For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
1 Corinthians 10:13-No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
1 John 1:5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
1 John 4:7-9-Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.
Revelation 21:3-5-And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away."And he who was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." Also he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."
Our God is a Great God!
I pray that after reading this you can say the song’s lines “Then I caught a glimpse of who You might be. The slightest hint of You brought me down to my knees.” While writing this I caught a further glimpse and it has brought me to my knees.
Below are some more of the many verses that give details of who God is, what His love is and what it means, what we mean to him, and what He is doing and what He will do.
Exodus 2:23-25-During those many days the king of Egypt died, and the people of Israel groaned because of their slavery and cried out for help. Their cry for rescue from slavery came up to God. And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. God saw the people of Israel—and God knew.
Exodus 34:5-7-The LORD descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD. The LORD passed before him and proclaimed, "The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation."
Deuteronomy 3:24-O Lord GOD, you have only begun to show your servant your greatness and your mighty hand. For what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do such works and mighty acts as yours?
Deuteronomy 4:29-31-But from there you will seek the LORD your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul. When you are in tribulation, and all these things come upon you in the latter days, you will return to the LORD your God and obey his voice. For the LORD your God is a merciful God. He will not leave you or destroy you or forget the covenant with your fathers that he swore to them.
2 Samuel 22:32-34-For who is God, but the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God? This God is my strong refuge and has made my way blameless He made my feet like the feet of a deer and set me secure on the heights.
2 Chronicles 30:9-For if you return to the LORD, your brothers and your children will find compassion with their captors and return to this land. For the LORD your God is gracious and merciful and will not turn away his face from you, if you return to him.
Psalm 10:4-In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.
Psalm 33:11-The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations.
Psalm 97:1-7-The LORD reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad! Clouds and thick darkness are all around him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. Fire goes before him and burns up his adversaries all around. His lightings light up the world; the earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax before the LORD, before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim his righteousness, and all the peoples see his glory. All worshipers of images are put to shame, who make their boast in worthless idols; worship him, all you gods!
Isaiah 6:3- And one called to another and said: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!"
Romans 1:18-23-For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.
Romans 6:23- For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 14:17-For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
1 Timothy 6:15-16-which he will display at the proper time—he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.
