"May God Bless Us, Every One!"

A CHRISTmas Carol

The name may be a little misleading… while watching the muppet’s take on Dickens’ story I kept thinking; “when will they get to the point?” With a title like a Christmas Carol there seemed to be a lack of Christ. There was a lot of mention of Christmas being a blessed day, requests for God blessing to people, talk of;  love, ‘spirit of the holiday’, peace, hope, joy, thankfulness, and singing; but they never gave the reason!

Why the love? Why the charity? Why the warm spirit and cheer? Why the blessings? How?

Christ.

The writer of the first book of John writes; “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” -1 John 4:7-11

The reason that this is such a blessed day, the reason to show love, the cause of the warmth and cheer, is all Christ. As the song being sung in the streets states; “It feels like Christmas, It is the season of the heart, A special time of caring. The ways of love made clear, It is the season of the spirit.” The way of love was made clear on this day. God came down in the form of a child on this day (approximately) to take away our sins and to reconcile us with God! How amazing is this day! Let us never, like the story of The Christmas Carol, get so caught up by the characteristics of the season that we leave out the reason for the season!
